Boronia shops open for facelift

Boronia shopfronts are set to receive a facelift thanks to more than $100,000 in grants awarded to local businesses.

The revamp will be made possible with the support of the Boronia Revitalisation Board and funding from the Victorian Government.

The Boronia Facade Upgrade Grant (BFUG) is supported by the State Government’s Suburban Revitalisation Fund and is part of the Boronia Renewal Strategy managed by Knox City Council.

The BFUG program enables Boronia businesses with shopfronts to apply for a grant of up to $5,000, with a dollar-for-dollar co-contribution from themselves.

“The Boronia Façade Upgrade Grant project aims to support businesses to improve the visual appeal of their shopfronts, enhance the general amenity of the area and increase patronage to Boronia,” said Mayor, Susan Laukens.

“Grants will be used to beautify the Boronia Activity Centre, enhance the amenity for traders and the community and improve safety.

“The grants will support traders in the ongoing revitalisation of the Boronia.”

Twenty-nine recipients will share $103,607 under Round 2 of funding.

Grants will be used for painting facades, mural installations, new or upgraded signage, window signage,  lighting, tiling, an arcade flooring upgrade and new or upgraded awnings.
