Blue Mountains council rolls out ‘Slow Down In My Street’ campaign

Blue Mountains City Council is urging motorists to slow down on local roads as the ‘Slow Down in My Street’ campaign returns from 12 October to 8 November.

The road safety initiative encourages drivers to follow speed limits and drive to the conditions, helping protect pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and other motorists.

Mayor, Mark Greenhill said everyone behind the wheel has a role in making local streets safer.

“Our local streets are shared by people walking, riding, driving and crossing the road. Slowing down gives you more time to react and a better chance of avoiding a crash,” Mayor Greenhill said.

“Even on a familiar street, conditions can change quickly. A child may step onto the road, a cyclist may be around the next bend, or rain may make the surface slippery.

“Please keep an eye on your speed and drive to the conditions every time you get behind the wheel.”

Local Police will target speeding on local streets during the campaign, with motorists caught speeding facing fines and demerit points.

‘Slow Down in My Street’ is jointly funded by Transport for NSW and Blue Mountains City Council, with enforcement support from local Police.

“By slowing down, we can all help make our neighbourhoods safer for everyone,” Mayor Greenhill said.
