Bega Valley Shire Council is calling on residents to join a community tree planting event near the East Street causeway in Bega on Saturday 26 October.
Council’s Recreation Assets Officer, Ed Crothers said the reserve near the East Street causeway supports a wide variety of native plants and wildlife.
“These events are part of our long-term commitment to preserve the wider Bega River environment,” Mr Crothers said.
“Regular native species planting events like this provide food and shelter for local wildlife and help prevent the spread of invasive plants like box elder and privet.
“By focusing on native trees, shrubs and ground covers that thrive in local conditions, we’re promoting a healthier ecosystem and boosting biodiversity.
“Spending time in nature is also great for our personal wellbeing. It’s a fantastic way for the community to come together, enjoy springtime and take care of our environment.
“Tree planting days are also a great opportunity for residents to learn more about native plants and sustainable land care practices.
“By getting involved, people can play an active role in restoring our local landscapes and reducing our collective carbon footprint.”
The event will wrap up by 12.30pm, with a free BBQ, tea and coffee running from 11.30 until 12.30, courtesy of the Bega Lions Club.
