Bega Valley Shire Council is seeking expressions of interest for the operation and management of Bega Saleyards.
Council’s Property Services Manager, Rickee Marshall said the completion of upgrade works at the facility represented a significant opportunity for qualified businesses, community organisations or other interested parties to operate and manage the saleyards, located on Kerrisons Lane.
“We’re pleased to be able to progress the expression of interest process for the long-term occupation and management of the saleyards now that upgrade works are complete,” Ms Marshall said.
“The saleyards have undergone significant improvements since 2019, under a $1 million grant from the NSW Government’s Drought Communities Program.
“That work means the facility now features major environmental and animal welfare improvements, upgraded site safety and better community access and facilities.
“With the current contract expiring, we’re seeking expressions of interest from any suitable organisations to manage the saleyards long term.”
She said the saleyards played a crucial role for the agribusiness sector in the NSW south east region.
“They cater for the sale of cattle in the far south coast area of the South East region of New South Wales. Cattle are drawn from as far as the Monaro to the west, Nowra to the north and East Gippsland in the south.”
“The saleyards are a vital agribusiness facility that enable transparent transaction of livestock on behalf of livestock producers in the south east.”
Expressions of interest close 12 May 2021 at 12 noon. Interested organisations are asked to indicate their interest via Council’s VendorPanel.
