Bass Coast Shire Council has welcomed an announcement the Victorian Government’s signing of a multi-year contract to bring Repco Supercars Championship back to Phillip Island.
The Council says the news marks an exciting chapter for Phillip Island’s rich motorsport history and provides a much-needed activation at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.
Mayor, Brett Tessari said the news was a positive step to support Phillip Island and the broader region following the loss of the two flagship international events MotoGP and the World Superbikes to South Australia.
“It’s fantastic that the Victorian Government is supporting another flagship motorsport event to our iconic Phillip Island Circuit,” Mayor Tessari said.
“We’ve had a lot of discussions with both the State and Federal Government over the past 12 months, and those conversations will continue. We’re seeking support a diverse calendar of events and experiences to support the ongoing economic transition following the loss of World Superbikes and MotoGP.
“We look forward to welcoming the Supercars and their fans back to Phillip Island in 2027.
“For now, we are gearing up for a spectacular send-off for MotoGP – 30 years on the island and the last one is going to be a party like no other.”

Phillip Island has a long and proud history with Australian Touring Car Championship and Supercars. The circuit first hosted a championship round in 1976, with 62 championship races held at Phillip Island since.
The circuit most recently hosted Supercars in 2019, and its return in 2027 will coincide with the 30th anniversary of the modern Supercars era.
The event will be delivered by the Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC), which currently stages the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix. Council has worked closely with AGPC for many years through the delivery of MotoGP events on Phillip Island.
