Aurukun council sacks new CEO

Queensland’s Aurukun Shire Council has voted to immediately remove Chief Executive Officer, Kate Rosier, after less than three months in the top job.

At last week’s ordinary meeting, councillors voted in favour of Ms Rosier’s removal. The new CEO was still in her probation period with Council at the time of the vote.

In a statement issued following the meeting, a Council spokesperson said: “Aurukun Shire Council has ceased the employment of Kate Rosier as chief executive officer as of July 26.

“Council does not comment on employment matters. Council has appointed director of corporate services Lyndon Keane as acting CEO until a recruitment process for a new CEO is finalised.”

Ms Rosier is the Council’s third CEO in just 18 months.

Following the retirement of long-serving CEO Bernie McCarthy in November, 2021, the Council appointed John Thomas, who began in the role in January last year before resigning within a month.

Ilario Sabatino then took on the role, but left just six months later. Alan Nielan acted in the CEO job for the months leading up to Ms Rosier’s appointment in May.
