The WA Government has announced it is seeking an anchor tent to operate at its $55 million South West Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Hub (AMTECH) which is currently under construction in the Shire of Dardanup local government area.
A Request for Proposal is now open, with the WA Government inviting businesses and organisations to submit their proposals to establish and operate a new advanced manufacturing facility at the Picton site.
The Government has committed $55 million towards land activation and establishment of a manufacturing facility, with works now underway.
“While this is a State initiative, our Shire has been a strong advocate for AMTECH and the opportunities it will bring for local businesses, jobs and future growth,” the Council said in a statement.
“This project will help position our region at the forefront of advanced manufacturing and renewable energy, supporting local jobs, training pathways and a stronger, more resilient economy.”
The Government says AMTECH is set to support the continued growth of advanced manufacturing in Western Australia, along with diversifying the South West economy and opening new opportunities for the region.
“The Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Hub will transform the South West manufacturing industry and now is the time for businesses who want to take a major role as the anchor tenant to come on board,” said WA Manufacturing Minister, Amber-Jade Sanderson.
The anchor tenant will work closely with the State to manufacture the parts needed to support the energy transition away from State-owned coal by 2030.
“The South West has a proud manufacturing history, and AMTECH will help build on that legacy by creating new jobs, attracting businesses, and growing the local economy,” said South West Minister, Don Punch.
“By attracting an anchor tenant to AMTECH, we’re helping ensure the South West remains a great place to work, invest, and build a career in advanced manufacturing.”
Construction will be overseen by DevelopmentWA and the Department of Energy and Economic Diversification will execute the search for an anchor tenant.
