City of Bayswater Council Mayor, Filomena Piffaretti, has resigned from her position as North Ward Councillor but remains a mayoral candidate for this weekend’s local government election.
If Ms Piffaretti is not re-elected as Mayor this weekend, she will no longer continue on Council, the City of Bayswater confirmed in a statement this week.
“The City understands the vacancy created following Cr Piffaretti’s resignation will need to be filled through an extraordinary election to be held within the next four months and is in discussions with the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries about what options are available to deal with the vacancy,” the Council said.
