Alice Springs councillor reinstated

Alice Springs Town Council has announced that Councillor, Allison Bitar, has been reinstated as an Elected Member of the Council.

Councillor Bitar, who temporarily stepped down from Council to run as a candidate in the 2024 Northern Territory Election, returns to her role following the provisions of Section 55(1)(d) of the Local Government Act.

A long-term Alice Springs local, Cr Bitar served as Deputy Mayor from August 2023 to July 2024.

“She remains dedicated to serving the Alice Springs community through her position on Council and we look forward to her continued contributions,” the Council said in a statement.

Cr Bitar secured just 470 votes in her run for the seat of Braitling in the recent Northern Territory Government election.
