Alice Springs Town Council and the Northern Territory Government have announced the next major milestone in the development of the new Alice Springs Public Library, with the Council officially going out to tender for concept designs.
The Council says the move marks the beginning of a collaborative journey, which will include the local community in helping to shape a modern, accessible, and vibrant library for generations to come.
The concept design process will set the foundation for a purpose-built facility that meets the evolving needs of Alice Springs. Council is committed to ensuring that every voice is heard, and extensive community consultation will be central to the design process, said Mayor Asta Hill.
“Our library is one of the beating hearts of Alice Springs, and this tender is the first step in creating a space that truly reflects our community’s aspirations,” said Mayor Hill.
“We want everyone – children and young people, families and older people – to have their say in what the new library should offer. This is your library, and together we’ll design a place where everyone belongs and thrives.”
NT Minister for Logistics and Infrastructure and Member for Namatjira, Bill Yan said the Government was pleased to support Alice Springs Town Council as the project moves into its next phase.
“A new library is an investment in the future of Alice Springs strengthening education, connection and opportunity for the whole community,” he said.
“We look forward to seeing local ideas take shape as the project progresses.”
Minister for Lands, Planning and Environment and Member for Braitling, Joshua Burgoyne said the Government was committed to supporting infrastructure that delivers long-term benefits for Central Australia.
“This tender marks an important milestone for the new Alice Springs Public Library, a project we are proud to support with a $14.96 million investment,” he said.
“We encourage the community to share their thoughts and ideas to ensure the new library becomes a welcoming space for everyone, for generations to come.”
The tender for concept designs is now open, and Council encourages all interested parties to participate.
