Albury Skate Park has won two awards at theĀ 2022 Australia Institute of Landscape Architecture Awards.
The park won the NSW Award of Excellence for Parks and Open Space and the NSW Regional Achievement Award for Southern NSW.
AlburyCity Council and landscape architects, PLAYCE, were commended by awards judges for “the inception and delivery of an engaging Skate and Active Recreational Precinct that caters for a range of ages, abilities, and activities. The park is a valuable community asset that sets a new benchmark for public open spaces and for the region.”
Council says the reimagining of the new skate park was driven by the Albury Skate and BMX Strategy, which was developed in close consultation with the community in 2018.
A working group was created for the project, which comprised a number of passionate community representatives and skaters. The group ensured local and expert input was incorporated into the design elements, and that attention to finer detail was achieved during construction, says Albury Mayor Kylie King.
“A huge congratulations to the AlburyCity team and landscape architect PLAYCE for dreaming up such an amazing space in our city,” she said.
“The great thing about our skate park is that it caters to a range of ages and abilities, with so many different activities to explore and experience.”
“It’s such a great space for young people to come together and connect, learn new skills, and get active outdoors.”
Director of PLAYCE, Aaron Wallis said he was thrilled to hear news of the award.
āIt was such a fantastic process to work closely with Councilās passionate and committed staff and see this amazing new skatepark come to life.”
“The built outcome has been tremendous so we cannot thank Precision Skateparks enough for their great work in building the park.
“Albury now has one of the best facilities of its kind in the country which so many of its young people can now enjoy for years to come,ā he said.
