Albury City Council has elected a new Mayor and Deputy Mayor at last night’s Council Meeting, marking the beginning of a new chapter in civic leadership for the city.
Councillor Kylie King was elected Mayor and Councillor Phil Bullivant was elected Deputy Mayor. Together, they will help guide Council’s strategic direction and represent the interests of the Albury community over the next two years.
“It is a tremendous honour and incredibly humbling to be elected to lead this city,” said Cr King.
“We have some challenges ahead of us, but with the support of the Council group, I’m ready to help lead the city, rebuild confidence and trust, and tackle those challenges together.
“Any opportunity to add my voice and energy to benefit Albury and surrounds is something that always appeals to me, and I’m very much focused on delivering for our community.”
Council CEO, Jason Gordon congratulated Cr King and Cr Bullivant on their election and said he looked forward to working with them for the benefit of the city and the community.
“I also want to acknowledge the significant contribution of former Mayor Cr Kevin Mack, for his strong advocacy and dedication to Albury and also thank Cr Jess Kellahan for her service and ongoing commitment to the community as Deputy Mayor,” he said.
Councillor Phil Bullivant said he was humbled by his election to the role.
“As an Albury born-and-bred kid from Lavington, to come through the council ranks and have the opportunity, with the support of my fellow Councillors, to be the Deputy Mayor is quite humbling,” he said.
“I’m 150% behind the Council, what we do in the job every day. The community know that I’m fair dinkum about what I do here and I just love it.
“I’m particularly pleased that Kylie has been given the Mayor’s role. We’ll work very well together and tackle the challenges facing our city as a team.”
