It’s party time at Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA) as the much-loved regional art centre celebrates its 10th birthday with three days of art, activities and celebrations from 2–4 October.
The milestone kicks off with a free community morning tea at QEII Square, where AlburyCity Councillor Stuart Baker, representing Council, will help blow out the candles and officially start the festivities.
Albury Mayor, Kevin Mack said the anniversary is a chance to celebrate MAMA’s impact over the past decade.
“In just 10 years, MAMA has established itself as one of Australia’s leading regional art museums. It’s become a hub for creativity and connection, welcoming thousands of visitors and putting Albury firmly on the cultural map. This birthday is about celebrating that success and sharing the excitement of what’s still to come,” Mayor Mack said.

Alongside the festivities, MAMA is also celebrating with a Schools Birthday Program: Our Collection. Over the next two months, 125 students from St Anne’s Primary School and Albury North Public School will take on the role of curators, exploring behind-the-scenes practices of exhibition design. Students have selected artworks from MAMA’s Collection and written their own interpretive texts, which will be presented in the museum’s Learning Lane across rotating two-week displays.
MAMA CEO, Blair French said the project captures the spirit of the anniversary.
“This program gives us the opportunity to see the Collection through fresh eyes. The insight and creativity of 10-year-old students is a perfect way to celebrate MAMA’s 10th year – it reminds us that art is for everyone, and that young people play an important role in shaping our cultural future.”
