Blue Mountains park designs shaped by community

Blue Mountains City Council has released the final designs for four local parks as part of its Year 3 Neighbourhood Parks Program following extensive community consultation with local residents.

The designs are proposed for Lennox Park at Blaxland, Peninsula Park at Valley Heights, Bloome Park at Leura and Bullaburra Village Green (Noble Street Park) in Bullaburra.

Mayor, Mark Greenhill said the final designs reflect the priorities most consistently identified by the community throughout the consultation process.

“Community consultation has been central to the development of these designs,” Mayor Greenhill said.

“We began by asking local communities how they use their parks and what improvements they would like to see. We then developed two draft design options for each park and invited the community to tell us which elements they valued most.

“These final designs are a direct result of that feedback and represent many of the ideas, priorities and aspirations shared by local residents.”

The Mayor said the designs seek to balance community aspirations with project budgets, accessibility, safety, maintenance requirements and the long-term sustainability of each site.

“While it is not possible to incorporate every suggestion, we are proud that these designs are a strong reflection of community sentiment,” he said.

“These upgraded parks will provide new opportunities for play, recreation and connection, while respecting the unique character of each location.”

The Neighbourhood Parks Program is funded through the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants (WSIG) Program.

Council says it will continue to accept feedback as the project progresses; but only essential changes will be considered at this stage as the project moves into construction.
