Mildura Rural City Council is working to develop the town’s first walking and cycling plan.
The Council says the Red Cliffs Walking and Cycling Plan is aimed at providing a safe pedestrian and cyclist network by developing, upgrading and managing a shared network of cycling and walking paths.
The network is set to link key community destinations such as schools, shops, waterways, parks and recreation areas.
Councillor for Infrastructure and Assets, Glenn Milne said the plan would focus on the area bounded by Nardoo Street, Cocklin Avenue, Nerrum Avenue and Azolia Street.
“We know there are many in the Red Cliffs community who already enjoy walking and cycling and this plan will not only make it safer for these residents, but may also encourage even more people to ride or walk more often,” Cr Milne said.
“We’re now at an important point in development of the plan where we need the community’s input to see what they’d like to see included or any issues addressed.
“No-one knows the Red Cliffs area better than local residents, particularly those who walk often or ride, which is why it’s so important they’re involved in shaping the plan.”
The Red Cliffs Walking and Cycling Plan has received $30,000 in funding from the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) Local Government Grant Program to support its development.
The plan is part of a broader push by Council to improve pedestrian and cycle access across the municipality. It follows completion last year of the Merbein Pedestrian and Cycling Plan and the Mildura Tracks and Trails Strategy before that.
