Yarra City Council has again been certified as a carbon-neutral organisation through the Australian Government’s Climate Active program.
Yarra was the first council in Victoria – and just the second in Australia – to be certified carbon neutral in 2012 and has been certified as compliant every year since.
“Our long-held certification as a carbon-neutral organisation demonstrates Yarra’s commitment to addressing the climate emergency head-on through measurable actions,” said Mayor, Claudia Nguyen.
“Efforts to reduce Council’s emissions tie into Yarra’s Climate Emergency Plan, which guides Council’s efforts toward net-zero emissions across the entire Yarra community by 2030,” she said.
Since adopting a Climate Emergency Plan in 2020, 112 of the 119 actions in the plan are either completed or on track, the Mayor said.
