City of Yarra Councillors last night adopted Yarra’s first ever Transport Strategy, which sets out the future of transport in the city.
Council says the strategy will create safer road options for all road users, including pedestrians and cyclists.
It will also improve accessibility for kids and people with a disability, while also aiming to reduce traffic on our local streets, Council said in a statement.
Yarra Mayor, Sophie Wade said the strategy would help create a transport system that suits people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
“Yarra is embracing low and zero carbon transport options and has committed to prioritising ways of getting around that are sustainable, safe, healthy and affordable,” Mayor Wade said.
“We’re dedicated to making it easier and safer to get around our city whether you walk, wheel, scoot, cycle, catch public transport or drive.
“Regardless of how you get around, we’re planning for the future and moving forward together.”
She said a final document will be ready to view in the coming weeks.
