Works will commence this week on a $4.9 million upgrade to Warragul’s Copelands Road to improve traffic flow, capacity and safety for both vehicles and pedestrians in the growing area, Baw Baw Shire Council has announced.
Key upgrade works will target the area between Mills Road and Lillico Road to improve road surface, upgrade the underground stormwater drainage at the Moe River crossing, and build new footpaths and a shared bicycle path.
Council CEO, Mark Dupe said he was pleased to see works begin on the highly-anticipated road project that would future-proof drainage, traffic and pedestrian needs in the area.
“It’s great to see works underway on this important road and drainage project. Not only will it improve traffic and pedestrian flow and safety, it will also ensure vital drainage infrastructure to support the growth of nearby housing developments,” said Mr Dupe.
“Copelands Road is a key arterial for local traffic coming to and from the highway, town centre, schools and local business Flavorite, who is supportive of the project. These works will ensure the road has capacity to service our growing community for decades to come.
“We will keep local residents and businesses informed as the project progresses and appreciate the community’s patience, understanding and cooperation during these essential works.”
Local business, Ace Earthmoving, was awarded the contract for works. The company will work closely with Council to deliver the project due for completion in 2025.
The project is being jointly funded by Baw Baw Shire Council and Development Contributions Plan (DCP) as part of the overall Warragul Precinct Structure Plan.
