Wingecarribee Shire Council’s trial of an innovative new bitumen pavement to help fast-track works on Station Street is paying dividends for locals, less than a week after the start of construction.
To minimise inconvenience for motorists and businesses and enable the road to re-open by Easter, Council is laying a new pavement solution called EME2, after hours.
“EME2 is an ultra-hard binder and asphalt which forms a thinner but stronger, structural layer of road surfacing,” said Council’s Director Service and Project Delivery, Karin Targa.
”Since the start of the month we’ve already constructed and laid new pavement and bitumen along two thirds of the entire length of the road.
Because we’re ahead of schedule we expect to be able to tackle the opposite side of the road starting Saturday 11 March. This puts us back on target to re-open the road in time for Easter travel.”
The reconstruction works will continue into the night until the entire length and breadth of Station Street had been repaved and improved, Ms Targa said.
