Wingecarribee launches DAISY digital assistant

Wingecarribee Shire Council has announced the launch of DAISY (Development Application Information System) a free, artificial intelligence (AI) powered digital assistant designed to help residents with residential planning enquiries.

Developed through the Early Adopter Grant Program funded by the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, DAISY was created by a consortium led by ADAPTOVATE, in partnership with GADALI, and built on the EnterpriseAI platform.

DAISY is now accessible via Council’s website, offering 24/7 access to general planning advice and support for preparing residential Development Applications (DAs).

DAISY uses generative AI to respond to questions. Like a new learner, it may not always provide perfect answers, but it will improve over time through regular use and feedback. The more the community interacts with DAISY, the more accurate and helpful it will become, Council said in a statement.

Council’s General Manager, Lisa Miscamble said the tool is part of Council’s commitment to innovation and customer-focused service.

“We want to make it easier for our community to understand planning requirements and navigate the DA process,” said Ms Miscamble.

“DAISY helps demystify the early stages of residential development by providing tailored guidance in plain language.”

DAISY can help users:

  • Understand planning rules, including what documents are required
  • Identify applicable local and state planning controls
  • Validate whether uploaded documents meet basic requirements
  • Prepare DAs for lodgement to the NSW Planning Portal

While DAISY offers helpful guidance, it does not replace Council’s planning staff, said Ms Miscamble. Final decisions on DAs remain with Council, and complex or non-residential enquiries should continue to be directed to the planning team.

To get the most out of DAISY when preparing a DA, users will need to log in to save progress, receive more specific advice, and validate their information. The platform uses secure, privacy-compliant data storage, allowing users to return to their application at any time.

DAISY is currently in Version 1, with ongoing improvements planned based on community feedback and advancements in AI technology.

DAISY is an enquiry and DA validation tool only. All Development Application lodgements must continue to be submitted via the NSW Planning Portal.

DAISY is now available via the Plan and Build section of Council’s website.
