Wellington Shire’s tennis players have an ace future ahead, with four international size courts unveiled as part of a $2.8 million redevelopment of Sale Tennis Club.
The project is expected to transform Sale Tennis Club into a centre of excellence for junior development.
The project included two redeveloped and two new en tout cas courts which meet official requirements for International Tennis Federation tournaments, and eight upgraded courts for club competition.
The clubhouse was extended and refurbished, and seating, pathways, fencing and court lighting were also upgraded.
Wellington Shire Council Mayor, Ian Bye said the redeveloped facility would be welcomed by tennis players across the region.
“With four courts now meeting international requirements, the hope is now to be able to attract high-level tournaments here to Wellington Shire,” Mayor Bye said.
“This is a great asset for the Wellington community and Council thanks the Sale Tennis Club, which was engaged right throughout the process, for its contribution to the redevelopment of this facility.”
The redevelopment was made possible through funding by Latrobe Valley Authority, Wellington Shire Council, Tennis Australia, John Leslie Foundation and Sale Tennis Club, and the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
“We’re proud to support Wellington Shire Council with the major redevelopment of Sale Tennis Centre, which will boost the local economy through visitor attraction at ITF-level tennis tournaments,” said Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Victoria, Danielle Green.
“The upgrades to the Sale Tennis Centre are a major win for the community.”
