Upper Hunter council progresses search for local aged care hostel operator

Upper Hunter Shire Council is moving ahead with plans to find a suitable aged care provider for a local Council-run 16-bed hostel.

The Council met yesterday to consider the outcome of an Expression of Interest process to find a provider to operate Gummun Place Hostel as a licensed assisted boarding house supported by home care services.

“Council resolved to note the expression of interest received from aged care providers to operate Gummun Place as an assisted boarding house supported by home care services,” Council said in a statement.

“Authority was delegated to the General Manager to continue negotiations with interested parties, with a further report on the outcome of those negotiations to be presented at the next Ordinary Council Meeting.”

In late-2024, the Council approached the Department of Health and Aged Care for additional support in attracting potential providers for the hostel, which at the time was incurring annual losses of more than $400,000.
