Toowoomba Regional Council is offering partial financial relief to residents and families whose fixed monuments at the Drayton and Toowoomba Cemetery were vandalised last month.
Mayor, Geoff McDonald said Council was keen to work with residents and their families who had been devastated by the senseless destruction of memorials at the cemetery.
“Family members or people connected to any of the identified sites who wish to reinstate the site are asked to please contact our Cemetery Services Team on (07) 4688 6686,” Mayor McDonald said.
“Our Cemetery Services Team is available to help people who have been affected by this unfortunate event.
“Council will remove and rectify hazards to meet workplace health & safety requirements. This will include placing monuments flat and face up for the safety of the community.
“Council wishes to support people who have identified damage to fixed monuments that are linked to them.”
Council’s Cemetery Services Team has completed an evaluation of the cemetery and compiled a list of the damaged sites at www.tr.qld.gov.au/cemeterylistings.
Residents who wish to volunteer at the Cemetery can register via Council’s volunteering portal. Please visit, MyImpactPage – Toowoomba Region – Volunteer Portal (betterimpact.com).
