Key Toowoomba city landmarks have been lit up to mark nine years until the start of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Victoria Street Bridge is illuminated in green and gold, while Toowoomba City Hall’s Annex will turn gold this week to mark the occasion.
Toowoomba Region Mayor, Geoff McDonald said the lighting up of Toowoomba City landmarks in Australian team colours, while a symbolic gesture, was only a small part of Toowoomba’s potential Games involvement.
“While the lighting up of these landmarks symbolises Toowoomba’s commitment and involvement with the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, there’s a much stronger meaning at play,” he said.
“Nine years out from the games, now is the time for Toowoomba region businesses to start to think about how they could be involved in procurement and service delivery in the lead-up to the 2032 Games.
“The Olympics and Paralympics are not just about celebrating world-class sporting events. There are so many more ways our community and the Toowoomba region can benefit.
“The Queensland State Government has indicated that Queensland businesses will likely share an estimated $180 billion in government procurement leading into the 2032 Games.
“That unprecedented level of spending is the true green and gold runway our business community needs to be ready to tap into,” Mayor McDonald said.
