Toowoomba jumps for joy over Olympic equestrian events win

Toowoomba Regional Council is celebrating today’s news of the Queensland State Government’s plan to host Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Equestrian events at the Toowoomba Showgrounds.

Mayor, Geoff McDonald (pictured) said the Royal Agricultural Society of Queensland’s Toowoomba Equestrian Centre would be a legacy project to benefit Queenslanders for the next 50 years.

“This is a watershed moment for the Toowoomba Region,” said the Mayor.

“We are ‘jumping for joy’ today with the State Government’s announcement of the Toowoomba Showgrounds as the host venue for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian events.

“Our advocacy efforts for the Royal Agricultural Society of Queensland’s ‘Toowoomba Equestrian Centre’ have paid off with the project set to deliver significant legacy benefits to Queenslanders for years to come.

“In addition to the legacy element, to play such a significant role in the delivery of the world’s largest event, the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032, is a coming-of-age moment for the Toowoomba Region,” Mayor McDonald said.

The Mayor said the eyes of the world would be upon Toowoomba as the best dressage, showjumping and eventing riders and their horses compete for Olympic glory in the region.

“The flow-on effects of today’s announcement could be massive and lead to the delivery of infrastructure for our Region that may not have been possible without the golden opportunity of hosting Olympic and Paralympic events.”

“I congratulate all involved in putting forward the Toowoomba Equestrian Centre project including RASQ, Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise and commend the Queensland State Government for realising the legacy benefits to come as a result of today’s announcement,” he said.
