Tenders open for Perth Zoo function centre

WA’s Perth Zoo Masterplan has reached its first major milestone, with designs finalised and tenders now open for the construction of a new café and a new function centre.

The new visitor café will be built in the heart of the Zoo, providing alfresco dining opportunities as well as additional Zoo visitor amenities in an accessible central location.

A separate function centre will be built on the western boundary of the Zoo with its own entrance off Labouchere Road.

“It is so exciting to see the Perth Zoo masterplan progressing,” said WA Environment Minister, Reece Whitby.

“It is an ambitious and historic project that will put the Zoo at the forefront of conservation work, education and animal experience globally.

“These two new facilities announced today will significantly improve how the people of Western Australia experience our State’s zoo, and will open the doors for more people to come to this inner-city oasis to connect with nature.”

The Zoo’s 20-year masterplan is a once in a generation, long-term redevelopment blueprint for Western Australia’s State zoo, the Minister said.

The masterplan has been boosted by a $43.5 million investment from the state government, including a $30 million election commitment.
