Tenders called for Darwin indigenous hub

The Federal Government is calling for applications from Indigenous suppliers to design and deliver a new Indigenous business and employment hub in Darwin.

Minister for Indigenous Australians, Ken Wyatt AM, said the hub will provide Indigenous businesses access to targeted advice and support, a place to work and network, and greater connectivity across industries.

“The new hub in Darwin will join a successful network of Indigenous Business Hubs already thriving across Australia,” Minister Wyatt said.

“The concept, which was born out of consultations that led to the Indigenous Business Sector Strategy, creates a network across the country where Indigenous business owners can share best practice, and be supported as they grow.

“The new hub in Darwin will provide tailored support for entrepreneurs and business owners as they kick start a new business or expand an existing one, with a special focus on how to engage Government and larger industries.”

The hub will also be a place for job seekers looking for opportunities and businesses looking to engage Indigenous employees, the Minister said.

“While building on the success of similar hubs in Western Sydney and Perth and the entrepreneur’s hub in Adelaide, Darwin’s hub will be designed in close consultation with the NT business community, for the NT business community.”

“For example, the hub’s key services will be online so that remote parts of the NT can have equal access to its programs and initiatives and translators will support delivery of services in-language.

“The hub will evolve to suit NT needs as its operating model in Darwin and surrounding areas is worked through by the successful provider, in partnership with local Indigenous businesses and leaders. This will help to ensure the right support is provided at the right time to give new NT businesses the best chance of success,” he said.

The approach to market is now open and is looking for an Indigenous organisation with a demonstrated capacity to engage the sector and deliver this important service.
