Tender awarded for Botany playspace

The construction tender for a new rejuvenated playspace in Botany has been awarded to Glascott Landscaping & Civil Pty Ltd, Sydney’s Bayside Council announced today.

In a statement, Council said the Sir Joseph Banks Park revamp was expected to be completed by December this year.

“This is an exciting project that will rejuvenate the existing playspace at Sir Joseph Banks Park,” Bayside Mayor, Dr Christina Curry said today.

“After extensive community consultation and feedback last year it is wonderful that we are now able to create this new adventure playspace at Sir Joseph Banks Park, which has to be one of the best parks in Bayside.”

The new playspace, designed around accessibility and inclusiveness, is based on the feedback and ideas of local children and the community, and will create an adventure play area in a natural setting for children aged 2-12 years, Council said.

In 2021, Council was successful in obtaining funding of $2.5million for the new adventure playspace through the NSW Government’s Legacy Grant program. The funding requires that construction be completed by December 2022.

Sir Joseph Banks Park includes recreational facilities such as extensive walking trails, bushland, bush regeneration areas, bush tucker gardens, a series of water bodies supporting a variety of native fauna, a playground, basketball keyhole, picnic and BBQ facilities, an off-leash dog park and a representation of the historic Pleasure Gardens – the site of Australia’s first zoological gardens.
