Swan Hill reveals latest road safety efforts

VIC

Swan Hill Rural City Council has announced the successful completion of a series of vital road safety signage and line marking upgrades throughout 2024.

Council’s Director Infrastructure, Leah Johnston said the projects have significantly improved road safety and accessibility across the region, benefiting both drivers and pedestrians, as well as individuals with disabilities.

“Key initiatives completed this year include the installation of chevron alignment markings on several high-risk corners throughout the road network and upgrades to disabled car parking facilities across various public spaces,” she said.

Improvements have been implemented at Lake Boga-Ultima Road, Culgoa-Ultima Road, Chillingollah Road, and at disabled car parking in McCallum Street and at the Catalina Museum.

“These enhancements ensure compliance with the latest design guidelines and updated accessibility standards, reflecting Council’s dedication to supporting road safety, accessibility and inclusivity,” said Ms Johnston.

She said improvements were crucial for creating a safer, more accessible environment for everyone.

“Road safety and accessibility are central to our work, and we are proud to have made meaningful progress throughout the year.”

“As we look to 2025, we will continue to work on further upgrades to ensure the well-being of our community.”

Ms Johnston said Council remained committed to ensuring the safety, well-being, and accessibility of all residents and visitors in the region.

“Through proactive road safety initiatives and accessibility improvements, we strive to make our roads safer and our public spaces more inclusive for everyone,” she said.
