Surf’s up for new City of Busselton Saltwater arts centre

City of Busselton Council has announced the region’s new arts, culture and events centre, Saltwater Busselton, will officially open on 9 May.

Council says the opening will occur in stages, beginning in May with public access to the art gallery, conference suite, foyer and box office. The theatre auditorium will open soon after. The phased approach will enable the community to begin using key areas of the venue for events, art exhibitions and activities while final works in the facility’s auditorium are completed.

To celebrate Saltwater’s opening on the second weekend of May, the City will open the doors to the community, offering guided tours throughout the venue, including a behind-the-scenes look at how a modern theatre operates and access to selected backstage areas. These tours will highlight the scale and complexity of the project and the specialist work involved in bringing Saltwater Busselton to life.

Mayor, Phill Cronin (pictured) said, the opening of Saltwater Busselton represents an exciting new chapter for the region.

“Saltwater Busselton is a project our community has watched grow from concept to construction, and I am incredibly proud to see it nearing completion. This venue will not only showcase local creativity and talent but also attract new cultural and economic opportunities for our City,” he said.

“Saltwater Busselton represents many years of planning, design and construction, and I look forward to the community enjoying the many benefits this new vibrant cultural venue will provide.”
