Supermarket chain checks out for new Adelaide Plains centre

Adelaide Plains Council has confirmed Drakes Supermarkets will be a part of its $150 million Two Wells Town Centre development.

The 3,500sqm supermarket will be one of Drakes’ largest by footprint in South Australia, employing up to 200 people.

“It will be part of the Town Centre’s first stage, which will also include specialty tenancies, a food and beverage precinct, childcare centre and swim school,” the Council said in a statement.

Plans for Stage One of the development will be lodged this year, with construction scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025 and completed in 2026.

Council says the supermarket announcement was the culmination of years of planning for “an orderly and connected expansion of the existing town centre”.

“When finished, the Two Wells Town Centre will feature a blend of retail, healthcare, commercial and community amenities along with sustainably landscaped and high-quality open spaces,” it said.

The town centre will be developed on a substantial 8-hectare landholding fronting Port Wakefield Highway. The land parcel was strategically acquired by Council to catalyse renewal of the historic town of Two Wells and service the significant residential growth in the region.

Leyton Property were unanimously endorsed as the project’s developer at a special meeting of Council in March.
