Shellharbour City Council CEO, Carey McIntyre, has announced he will be leaving to take up a new role leading the City Futures Directorate at Shoalhaven City Council.
Mr McIntyre described the move as an exciting opportunity and said he was looking forward to being part of the Shoalhaven City Council Executive Team.
“Shellharbour City Council has achieved some incredible things over the past six and a half years and they’ve been the most fulfilling and proudest years of my career,” Mr McIntyre said.
“The time is right for a new chapter in my career and it’s one that I am relishing. I’m very proud of Shellharbour City Council, its values and its people and I know that the service we seek to provide to our Community will continue and grow.
“We have a strong and resilient leadership and staff team who sincerely believe that the work they do helps make this city a better place. The Council is a robust organisation well placed to meet the needs of its stakeholders both now and into the future.
“Having grown up in Shellharbour City and seen the great strides it has taken in recent years, I’ve no doubt that the city’s best years are ahead,” he said.
In a statement today, Council said that under Mr McIntyre’s operational leadership, Shellharbour City had achieved a great deal, including receiving the highest honour in local government – the prestigious AR Bluett Memorial Award.
“Carey’s achievements in moving the Council forward as an organisation have been nothing short of extraordinary,” said Shellharbour City Mayor, Chris Homer.
“He has steered the business through some extremely challenging times, including the COVID-19 pandemic, and leaves behind a modern, values-driven, financially sustainable organisation that is well-prepared for the future. Mr McIntyre leaves a tremendous legacy that will help ensure the success of a new CEO.
“I know my colleagues – both new and those who have served on previous Councils – are deeply appreciative of the work he has done and we will miss his professionalism and guidance.
“I know from conversations with staff that he is held in the highest regard for his leadership, values, kindness and genuine concern for employees and the Shellharbour community. I wish him all the very best in this next chapter of his career,” Mayor Homer said.
Mr McIntyre will leave his position on 25 March. Council said arrangements were underway for the recruitment of a new CEO, as well as the appointment of acting CEO.
