Shellharbour Airport campaign takes off

Shellharbour City Council has launched a new campaign to help people discover more about Shellharbour Airport.

The campaign encourages locals to ‘Fly from Home’ by showcasing how easy and comfortable it is to fly from Shellharbour.

Mayor, Chris Homer said Shellharbour Airport was a valuable connection for the community.

“Shellharbour Airport helps connect our community with the rest of the country and the world. This campaign is about reminding people that they can start their trip close to home. It’s easy to use, welcoming to everyone, and we want more locals to enjoy that,” he said.

The Mayor said the campaign also shines a light on an important but little-known fact – Shellharbour Airport is fully accessible. The terminal includes step-free amenities for people with mobility challenges, passenger assistance devices (wheelchair lift to airplane), modern restroom facilities with adult change table and lifting equipment, hearing-loop for hearing-aid users, and braille directional signage. The airport is also a partner with the Sunflower Lanyard program for people with hidden disabilities

“As someone who has a spinal cord injury, lives locally and travels often, having such an accessible airport right here in Shellharbour is an exciting opportunity. Being able to fly out so close to home takes away the stress and exhaustion of battling Sydney travel, making the whole experience smoother and more enjoyable,” said Robofit Co-founder, Daniel Hillyer.

“As a local business helping people with mobility challenges and wheelchair users in their recovery journey, it’s exciting to know our clients can now travel directly into the Illawarra.”

The campaign (pictured) includes a short videos and photos of real locals enjoying different types of trips – like sports events and family holidays to weekend getaways. These will appear in local cinemas, on social media, radio, online editorial, and Council channels.

From Shellharbour, travellers can fly direct to Brisbane or Melbourne. There’s free parking just outside the terminal, no traffic, no line-ups, quick and easy check-ins, and friendly staff. This makes it a great choice for families, older people, business travellers, and anyone wanting a simple, stress-free trip, the Council says.
