Second municipal monitor appointed to Glenelg Shire

Victorian Local Government Minister, Melissa Horne, today announced the appointment of a second municipal monitor to Glenelg Shire Council.

Steven Kingshott will work alongside Jim Gifford, for the three-month appointment, which will expire on 13 February 2024.

The Minister said the monitors will support good governance at Glenelg Shire Council and guide recruitment of a new chief executive officer.

“Mr Kingshott brings significant experience to his role having worked in senior positions with responsibility for organisational development and risk management at companies including ExxonMobil while also having served as a councillor and mayor at Williamstown City Council for a decade and a board member at Melbourne Water,” said Ms Horne.

“The monitors’ terms of reference direct the monitors to assist councillors in the understanding and execution of their statutory roles and responsibilities as representatives of the community and to guide best-practice engagement between members of the council and between councillors and shire staff.”

The terms of reference for the monitors is available at localgovernment.vic.gov.au/council-governance/independent-reports.
