Port Macquarie counting down to 10th ArtWalk celebration

The countdown is on to Port Macquarie Hastings Council’s annual ArtWalk, with the Port Macquarie CBD set to turn into a vibrant display of artistic creativity tomorrow (5 June).

Now in its 10th year, the Council says ArtWalk has grown from a grassroots arts initiative into one of the region’s premier cultural events, drawing thousands of visitors into the heart of Port Macquarie for an immersive evening of projections, live music, performance, installations, local artists, artisan markets and family-friendly activities.

Running from 5pm to 9pm, this year’s milestone event will feature more than 300 artists and performers, interactive activations, food vendors, community collaborations, and satellite locations across the town centre.

The artist line-up includes a collaboration to spruce-up Barracks Lane in the CBD with a vibrant mural currently being painted by emerging artist Renee Davies from Bonny Hills and well-known mural artist Brad Eastman (Beastman) whose work has been displayed across Australia.

Mayor, Adam Roberts said the 10-year milestone was an opportunity to reflect on how ArtWalk has become a premier event that showcases the region’s creative identity.

“ArtWalk has evolved into one of the signature events on our cultural calendar and a celebration of the incredible creativity that exists throughout our community,” Mayor Roberts said.

“For 10 years, ArtWalk has brought people together through art, music, storytelling, and shared experiences, while also supporting local artists, businesses, and our night-time economy.

“This year’s program is shaping up to be one of the biggest and most exciting yet, and I encourage the community to come into the CBD, explore the activations and celebrate this milestone with us.”

Visitors can expect a dynamic evening experience throughout the CBD, with large-scale projections, light installations, roaming performers, live entertainment, exhibitions, pop-up experiences and collaborations between artists and local businesses helping bring the streets to life.

Council is encouraging attendees to plan ahead and consider public transport options where possible, with free shuttle bus services operating on the night to help people travel to and from the event safely and conveniently.

Transport and event information, including shuttle bus details, parking information, maps and the full interactive program, are available on the ArtWalk website.

Mayor Roberts said the strength of ArtWalk over the past decade has been built on strong community support and creative participation.

“This event is a celebration of local talent, creativity and collaboration, and it simply would not be possible without the artists, performers, volunteers, businesses, sponsors and community members who continue to support it year after year,” he said.

“We’re proud to celebrate 10 years of ArtWalk and look forward to welcoming thousands of residents and visitors into Port Macquarie for another unforgettable night.”
