Port Fairy chasing back-to-back tourism titles

Port Fairy is hoping for back-to-back gold awards in the Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards.

The town has been named a finalist in the Small Town Category for the annual awards.

An initiative of the Victorian Tourism Industry Council (VTIC), the program recognises regional towns in Victoria that offer exceptional and unique visitor experiences.

Mayor of Moyne Shire, Ian Smith said the win in last year’s awards, followed by a silver
medal at the national awards not only boosted the profile of Port Fairy, but the whole Moyne region.

“Port Fairy has so much to offer; from heritage sites, wine-and-dine spaces, incredible landscapes and a one-of-a-kind atmosphere,” he said.

“After the awards last year we saw a significant uptick in visitation and enquiries and that gave us an opportunity to promote the whole Moyne region to a greater audience.

“Many businesses are just now getting back on their feet after a difficult couple of years, and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate their efforts than recognising Port Fairy and Moyne as the great tourist destination that it is.

“The winner is decided by public vote, which is now open, so I ask our community to get behind us, jump online and vote for Port Fairy,” the Mayor said.

The winners of the Victorian awards will progress on to the nationals to compete against other States and Territories for a chance to be named Australia’s Top Tourism Towns.

Voting is open until 9am 31 May 2022 and can be made online at
www.vtic.com.au/toptourismtown/portfairy. All entries go into the draw to win a luxury Melbourne getaway for two.
