Penrith City Council has welcomed the announcement of the proposed flight paths for the new Western Sydney International Airport, saying the news brings the facility one step closer to being operational.
In a statement, the Council said the airport brings great opportunities for Penrith through increased jobs, infrastructure and investment.
“Council looks forward to the release of the Environmental Impact Statement to further understand the plans to mitigate the impacts on residents and the environment,” it said.
Mayor, Tricia Hitchen (pictured) said the Penrith community was excited by the flight path announcement.
“The investment in Western Sydney International Airport and associated infrastructure is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to provide a range and diversity of jobs for our residents closer to home both now and into the future,” she said.
“Council looks forward to the release of the Environmental Impact Statement so that it can be considered alongside today’s announcement.
“Council will be reviewing and making a submission when the EIS opens as well.”
The Mayor also encouraged local residents to attend one of the Australian Government’s information sessions and participate online during the consultation period to have their views heard on the draft flight path plans.
“The Penrith community is excited by today’s announcement of the flight paths as it brings the opening of the new Western Sydney International Airport one step closer,” said Mayor Hitchen.
