Penrith City Council has awarded a $3.57 million tender for the construction of a new 1.9km shared path along Factory Road at Regentville.
Convil Group has been appointed to deliver the shared path following a competitive tender process, the Council confirmed in a statement.
The project is being funded by a $4.46 million grant through the NSW Government’s 2024-2025 Get NSW Active Program. The Council also received $260,000 for the path design through the NSW Government’s 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 rounds of the Get NSW Active Program.
The three-metre-wide shared path will give pedestrians and cyclists a safe and accessible way to travel between Glenmore Park, Regentville and the Nepean River.
Mayor, Todd Carney said the shared path will significantly improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists using Factory Road.
“The new path will encourage residents to leave their cars at home and to bike, walk or run to the Nepean River,” Mayor Carney said.
“Council is committed to delivering the infrastructure our community needs now and into the future.”
The project was identified as a high priority in Council’s 2021 Penrith Green Grid Strategy in response to community concern for safety along the popular route.
Construction of the shared path is anticipated to begin next month.
