Parramatta ploughs new chapter for Farmer’s Market

City of Parramatta Council has endorsed a revitalisation plan to breathe new life into the iconic Parramatta Farmer’s Market.

Under the plan, the weekly market at Centenary Square will relaunch with more stalls offering a wider range of variety improved entertainment and amenities and refreshed banding to attract more visitors commencing December this year.

Lord Mayor, Martin Zaiter said the revitalisation will bring a much-needed boost to the market’s atmosphere while positioning Parramatta as a global City with local heart.

“The markets have been part of Parramatta’s story for over 200 years and this is about giving one of our most iconic public spaces a new lease on life,” Lord Mayor Zaiter said.

“We’ve listened to what our community and stallholders want, and we’re delivering a vibrant, exciting and community-focused market experience – something that Parramatta deserves.

“This refresh also supports local growers and small businesses, while celebrating the best of our multicultural City.”

The revitalised Wednesday market will expand with additional stallholders, introduce seasonal quarterlymarkets and on-site enhancements including seating, signage and entertainment – acting as a pilot for a broader markets strategy across the Local Government Area (LGA).

The move follows extensive community consultation including public and stallholder surveys between May and June this year.

Council says the data collected revealed strong support for revitalising the markets:

  • 98% support more markets across the LGA
  • 75% want greater stallholder variety
  • 69% want more fresh produce
  • 53% want more food options

The revitalised Parramatta Farmer’s Market will launch in December, with quarterly seasonal events continuing through August 2026, consistent with Council’s Event and Festivals Strategy 2025–2030.
