The home of City of Parramatta Council’s essential frontline services is shifting to a more sustainable future with the installation of a new solar canopy system with electric vehicle (EV) chargers at the Rydalmere Operations Centre (ROC).
Fourteen new EV chargers have been installed across 20 dedicated parking bays, helping Council to transition to a fully electric fleet in the years to come.
Lord Mayor, Martin Zaiter (pictured) said the new infrastructure was a game-changer for the organisation.
“This project reinforces Council’s commitment to sustainability and also showcases our approach to adding more electric vehicles to our fleet,” Lord Mayor Zaiter said.
“Council is prepared for a sustainable future, with eight-22 kilowatt and six-7 kilowatt charging ports for use by council vehicles, all powered by renewable energy generated from on-site solar panels.
“Moves like this will ensure we maintain our carbon neutral certification that has been in place since mid-2022.”
The Council has taken major steps to reduce its carbon footprint including an upgrade to smart and LED energy efficient streetlighting and the installation of 830kW of roof top solar panels on Council facilities.
Council’s libraries, community centres and car parks are increasingly being powered by solar energy, reducing Council’s reliance on the traditional energy grid.
“These additional chargers and solar canopy will set us up for years to come and make our full transition to electric vehicles much easier,” Lord Mayor Zaiter said.
