Parramatta council releases plan for parks boost

City of Parramatta Council’s vision for more modern green spaces, parks and playgrounds is a step closer with the Carlingford Parklands Design Plan now on public exhibition.

The plan provides a long-term vision for proposed upgrades at Thallon Street Reserve West, Thallon Street Reserve East, Shirley Street Reserve and Lloyds Avenue Reserve in Carlingford and will provide more revitalised green spaces as the suburb continues to grow.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor, Martin Zaiter said the upgrades were a vital addition to the area.

“Just like many parts of our local area, Carlingford’s population is growing fast with more than 8,000 extra people expected to move to the suburb in the next 25 years,” Lord Mayor Zaiter said.

“These new green spaces are essential to help keep residents and families happy, healthy and active.”

The design includes more seating, multi-use courts, better play equipment and better lighting.

So far, the community has provided positive feedback to Council that they want to see basketball courts, improved access through the parks, an off-leash dog park and native trees and plants also included, said the Lord Mayor.

“Community consultation is really important so these parks are designed by the community, for the community.”

“I encourage everyone to take a look at this exciting project and have their say on how Council can make these parks more enjoyable for current and future generations to come,” he said.

Consultation begins today and ends at 5pm on 18 June. To have your say, visit the Participate Parramatta website.
