Parkes Shire Council is working with NSW Health and the Western NSW Local Health District to provide more information to its residents after confirmation a delivery truck driver infected with COVID-19 had visited the region.
“On Sunday 18 July 2021, NSW Health confirmed that a truck driver delivering to Parkes has tested positive for COVID-19,” Council said in a statement.
“Contact tracing is underway, with further details to be released, including exposure sites hopefully within the next 24 hours.”
A pop-up drive through COVID-19 testing clinic has been established at the Parkes Showground, and will be in operation:
- 2pm – 5pm, Sunday 18 July 2021;
- 8am – 4pm, Monday 19 July 2021;
- 8am – 4pm, Tuesday 20 July 2021.
Residents displaying symptoms or who had potential contact to the known case have been told by Council to get tested immediately and self-isolate for 14 days.
“In response to the most recent NSW Public Health Order and the announcement regarding the truck driver delivering to Parkes who has tested positive for COVID-19, as of Monday 19 July, Parkes Shire Council will be implementing precautionary measures guided by our COVID-19 response plan,” Council said.
It has closed the Council Administration Centre and Planning & Environment customer service counter from today. The Parkes Visitor Information Centre, Henry Parkes Centre, animal shelter, the Council-run Central West Family Daycare, and all Shire libraries have also been closed to the public.
Meanwhile, the Parkes Regional Airport terminal will be closed outside of scheduled flight times. The terminal will open for 45 minutes either side of arrival and departure flights, Council said.
