Nominations open for 2023 Jim Hullick Award

Nominations have opened for the 2023 Jim Hullick Award, which acknowledges individuals in the South Australian public service who have achieved an outstanding outcome through their close collaboration with councils.

LGA President, Dean Johnson said the award celebrated the extraordinary outcomes that arise from government collaboration and what can be achieved through partnership and teamwork.

“The Jim Hullick Award is a fantastic opportunity to highlight a public sector employee who has worked with one or more councils in South Australia to deliver a project, service or program in a collaborative way,” Mayor Johnson said.

Last year’s winner, Department for Environment and Water’s, Craig Nixon (pictured, left, receiving the Award), was recognised for his work on the Remarkable Southern Flinders project and the partnership approach he took with all stakeholders, including the Mount Remarkable Council, Northern Areas Council and Port Pirie Regional Council.

“Mr Nixon’s work in the Remarkable Southern Flinders project, and the development and maintenance of national parks in SA, has required close connection and engagement with councils,” Mayor Johnson said.

“The judges were impressed by the way Mr Nixon built relationships with councils and how he proactively sought to understand the local context – that approach ultimately led to better outcomes for communities.

Mayor Johnson encouraged those in the sector to nominate a public servant they have worked with to achieve an outcome.

“Local councils work with state and federal government in a wide range of areas, including health and wellbeing, tourism, infrastructure and transport, regional development and economic growth, biosecurity, climate change and so much more.”

“I encourage council elected members and staff, along with regional local government associations, to consider someone they could put forward for nomination,” he said.

The Award was established by the LGA’s long-serving Chief Executive Officer Jim Hullick, who served from 1975 to 1996.

Nominations for the award close 21 September 2023.
