Moreton Bay Central is set to become a tertiary education hub, with a new TAFE Centre of Excellence joining the University of the Sunshine Coast Moreton Bay campus on land provided by the City of Moreton Bay Council.
Mayor, Peter Flannery said the vision for the land was clear from the time it was acquired in 2015.
“We’ve been able to achieve what we said we would which was to provide world-class education and job opportunities that support the City’s continued economic development and growth,” Mayor Flannery said.
“City of Moreton Bay is proud to have provided the land for the University of the Sunshine Coast Moreton Bay campus and now, to the new $60 million TAFE Centre of Excellence and Advanced Manufacturing Hub, due to commence construction in 2026.
“Since the University opened in 2020, City of Moreton Bay has invested more than $1.1 million into the successful scholarships and bursary program and recently confirmed the continuation of this partnership.”
Mayor Flannery said Council’s investment in scholarships and bursaries was delivering outstanding community outcomes. Despite the City historically recording higher-than-average dropout rates, recipients now achieve a 95% completion rate.
With 38.5% of recipients being the first in their family to attend university, the program clearly demonstrates Council’s leadership in breaking down barriers and creating lasting opportunity, he said.
Mayor Peter Flannery said the Council’s investment in both university and TAFE pathways reflects a commitment to ensuring residents can access education that suits their goals and circumstances.
“Both pathways ensure residents feel empowered to pursue meaningful careers and contribute to City of Moreton Bay’s long-term social and economic prosperity,” Mayor Flannery said.
“Council’s approach to higher education accessibility combines local campus delivery with meaningful financial support so no one gets left behind regardless of their geographical and socio-economic status.”
The TAFE Centre of Excellence and Advanced Manufacturing Hub is being funded by the Queensland Government.
