Randwick City Council has officially opened a new outdoor gym at Maroubra Beach, giving locals and visitors a fresh space to work out for free.
The outdoor gym is located at the south end of the beach, next to Maroubra skate park. It includes an elliptical trainer, a step-up station, a chest press, pull downs, leg press, body pulls and push ups, gorilla bars, parallel bars, pull-up bars, leg raises and sit-up benches.
Mayor, Dylan Parker said the new facility is part of Council’s commitment to providing free and accessible spaces that support community health and wellbeing.
“Health and fitness are an important part of the lives of many residents,” Mayor Parker said.
“That’s why we’re investing in more opportunities and better facilities that improve physical and mental health – spaces where people can connect, stay healthy and enjoy the outdoors. The new outdoor gym at Maroubra Beach is a great example of this commitment.”
The Council says community feedback played an important role in shaping the design of the new outdoor gym at Maroubra Beach.
“We are proud to deliver a new outdoor gym at Maroubra Beach that has been designed in collaboration with the local community,” Mayor Parker said.
Council consulted with the local community about the new outdoor gym earlier this year. The new facility replaces the first outdoor gym built in Randwick City in 2013 located at the north end of Maroubra Beach. This old gym will be removed to make way for an upgrade of the area near the beachside playground.
