New Mayor for Strathfield

Strathfield Council has elected Councillor Karen Pensabene as Mayor and former Mayor, Matthew Blackmore, as Deputy Mayor for the remainder of this Mayoral term ending in September.

Mayor Pensabene (pictured) said she was honoured to be elected to lead the Council.

“Having lived in Strathfield for over 25 years, I have been actively involved in issues affecting our local community for many years, well before I was elected to Council in 2017,” she said.

“I look forward to serving our residents as Mayor, continuing the great work of our outgoing Mayor, Councillor Matthew Blackmore over the past 12 months.

“As Mayor, I am committed to working with our local community, all stakeholders and my fellow Councillors in an inclusive manner to ensure the well-being of all. In my time on Council, I have driven an inclusive community agenda, focused on the needs of our residents. I believe that our Council actively engages our community today, ensuring the success of our Council for our residents and future generations’ benefit, creating a sustainable future for our community,”

Councillor Blackmore congratulated Mayor Pensabene on her election.

“Growing up as a resident in Strathfield, it has been an honour to be elected as a member of Council since 2017. My time as Mayor afforded me the privilege of meeting thousands of residents to discuss local matters close to their heart, and the ability to oversee the delivery of important projects to enhance quality of life and safety in our area,” he said.

“I wish to thank our constituents for placing their trust in me as an elected member of Council. I look forward to working with Mayor Karen Pensabene as Deputy Mayor to continue servicing our local community to a high standard and improve our financial sustainability.”
