Sarah Ndiaye has been named the new Mayor of the Byron Shire for the next four years.
“I am so honoured and humbled to be elected as the mayor of the incredible Byron Shire and to say I am looking forward to this opportunity is an absolute understatement,” Mayor Ndiaye said.
“It’s an incredible privilege and, now the election has been decided, I intend to get to work because while I have served eight years as a Councillor, being the mayor brings with it an entirely new realm of responsibility,” she said.
Byron Shire Council General Manager, Mark Arnold, congratulated Mayor Ndiaye (pictured on left) on winning the election.
“Sarah is no stranger to the Local Government arena, and I am looking forward to working with her and the new Council,” Mr Arnold said.
“Her passion for the community has always driven Sarah to push for the best possible outcomes for residents across all projects and issues including housing, environment and provision of community facilities.”
Mayor Ndiaye will be supported by eight Councillors, who were formally declared yesterday.
