Tasmania’s Burnie City Council has announced the appointment of Shane Crawford as the organisation’s new General Manager.
In a statement, Deputy Mayor, Giovanna Simpson said Mr Crawford (pictured) has lived and worked in North West Tasmania for his entire career and is currently the General Manager of Waratah Wynyard Council, where he has served since December 2017.
“Having served over seven years at Devonport City Council, including as Executive Manager Corporate, Community and Business Services prior to joining the WWC, Mr Crawford has a deep and practical understanding of local government in the region,” said Cr Simpson.
“Mr Crawford was selected by Councillors for the role after his successful leadership of the WWC has led to effective financial management while still delivering upon all of Council’s core responsibilities, in addition to developing new projects of significance for the Waratah Wynard area.”
Mr Crawford actually commenced his local government career with the Burnie City Council, joining in 2004 and serving in various roles during his five-year tenure, including as Director Corporate Services.
“We therefore look forward to welcoming Shane back to the Burnie City Council, but this time as our General Manager,” said Cr Simpson.
“I, along with my fellow Councillors and the Council’s executive leadership team, sincerely look forward to working with him to deliver upon Council’s ambitious strategic plan, including the delivery of the Burnie City Centre Urban Plan.”
Mr Crawford will commence with the Burnie City Council in December.
