Greater Geelong Council has welcomed its newest councillor, with Melissa Cadwell elected following a countback by the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC).
The extraordinary vacancy in the Brownbill Ward arose due to the election of Sarah Mansfield to the Victorian Parliament.
The VEC conducted a countback of all formal votes from the Brownbill Ward on Monday.
Ms Cadwell was sworn into office at a ceremony at Wurriki Nyal.
“On behalf of Council, I welcome Melissa to the team and I’m looking forward to working with her to represent the local community,” said Mayor, Trent Sullivan.
“Congratulations to Sarah Mansfield on her election to the Upper House and thanked her for her service to the municipality since 2017.
“I’d like to thank Sarah for her valuable contribution to the Council, and to the Greater Geelong community, over the past five years. I look forward to continuing our strong working relationship as she serves the Western Victoria region in her new role as a Victorian MP,” the Mayor said.
