Narrandera Shire time capsule unearthed after 50 years

Narrandera Shire Council has thanked local community members who turned out in droves for the recent opening of its 50-year-old time capsule.

Mayor, Neville Kschenka said the event drew the largest crowd ever seen at at the Parkside Cottage Museum.

“Council extends its sincere thanks to staff and volunteers who assisted on the day,” the Mayor said.

“While the opening was a significant and memorable occasion, the condition of many items reflects the effects of time, with a portion of the content having been impacted by age and environmental factors over the past 50 years.”

The Mayor said Council staff and museum volunteers are now working carefully to dry, assess and preserve all salvageable items to prevent further deterioration.

“This is a detailed process and will take some time, and the community’s patience is appreciated,” he said.

“Images and updates will be shared once items have been stabilised and appropriately processed.

“Despite the condition of many items, the opening provided a meaningful opportunity for the community to come together and reflect on Narrandera’s history.”
